Pherkad

Pherkad is Gamma Ursae Minoris, one of the two “Guardians of the Pole” at the end of the Little Dipper’s bowl, about 487 light-years away. Its name comes from the Arabic for “calf,” from a phrase meaning “the dim one of the two calves,” the other being Kochab.
